    Hello all,
New to the Audi A6 scene but have just bought a 2.5tdi final edition and it all seems good so far.

Slight problem with the DVD sat nav as when I insert the DVD into the slot behind the screen it says that its inserted incorrectly and cannot read it. Its the right way up and I have tried both DVDs from the case.

I have tried CD's and it has no problem playing them.
Normal film DVD's (although I am not sure that it should be able to play these anyway) it does the same error message but sometimes says it cannot identify the files.

I have tried a Tescos DVD lens cleaner with brushes and this made no difference.

The car is a 2005 and the discs that came with it are 2009 so I am not sure if this may cause a error if the sat nav is protected some how from having the wrong discs in it ?

Does this mean that the DVD rom is knackered ? Are there replacements availble at reasonable cost or can it be repaired ?

Any help or advice would be appreciated.

    Thanks
    Shaun

I am no expert in this but I have just had a bluetooth handsfree fitted, integrated into the RNS-E of my 2004/5 Allroad. At the same time the software was updated and a new Sat Nav disc put in, because the old one would not work. I would guess that the 2009 DVD will not work with the 2005 software in your RNS-E. Regards

The 09 DVD would update the software level of your 05 unit so thats not the issue. (It'll never play film DVD's either)

It'll be the laser unit thats knackered. You can find them on Ebay(amongst other places), £150-£200 ish.

    Thanks for your replies.

What would i have to search for on E-bay etc to find a suitable laser ?
Does the whole screen and unit have to be changed as I have seen these for £500, or is the laser unit like a DVD drive on a pc that can be changed seperately ?

    Cheers

I had to get mine changed as well.

A better fix is to get the entire DVD mechanism swapped out.

I used Hazzydayz / VW Cruise, search online and then phone them.

Issac, if it plays CD's without any problem dosn't that indicate player might be OK and its a software issue? I would be inclined to at least try and get an 04/05 disc from ebay for a couple of quid and try it first, to rule out the incompatable possibility.

    No.

    It will be the drive.

Mine would play CDs with no issues but the NAV disc could not be read.

If you do want to try a newer nav disc, I have a 2007 disc for sale which has the TMC function on it. Yours for £45.

DVD's are 'harder' to read, thats why a simple CD will play ok. Try a newer DVD if you like but I'll bet it wont fix anything.

I have a 2007 A6 with a Sat Nav. Nice system with a built in screen etc but the mapping and so quality of navigation is poor compared to my Garmin Nuvi.

I'm wondering whether £150 is going to be well spent on getting the latest DVD. Seems a lot to me but that's Audi.

Can anyone please advise on the basis its not my last £150!!

    John
