oil fumes

Hi all, help needed to locate an oil leak from, i think, behind the engine at the top, have cleaned this area before when i noticed it,but can see it returning again. Also brings an oily smell into the car. have replaced the drain valves and also sorted a broken hose which was underneath the throttle body, thinking i had cured this, but can still smell oil from inside car, also changed the cabin filter which was very dirty. No oil leaking from under car.Dont know what to do next. Sorry car is a 1999 a4 1.8 20v non turbo, apt engine code, facelift model with 78000 mls. any help gratefully recieved.

Hi,remove the top plastic cover over rocker cover,and pull off the plug leads to check the gasket hasnt started leaking,if so there will be oil up around the spark plug.Also have a visual around the perimeter of the rocker cover,especially around the left,above the exhaust manifold,as you mention and oil smell.
