I was offered Autoglym treatment by my VW Dealer for my new Golf (which I pick next Thursday 19th Nov) for £299. I felt that I could live without the treatment and polish it myself. However today I have been offered a voucher which offers an additional £250 when I come to part exhange the vehicle.
This means a net cost of £50 - However this assumes I want to part exchange with same dealer and that they give a good part exchange figure AND then increase that figure by the £250.
    Any views

dont link the two offers just to justify the polish.

get the very best trade in figure without mentioning you have the voucher, it you are happy with the offer present the voucher, save the £250 and polish your car yourself; that's what I'd do....personally I like to polish a new car....helps me bond with it if you know what I mean....perhaps sad but true.................

Yeah, the sales guy was pushing it when I ordered my car (not even due till Feb-ish), aint no way I`m paying £300 for some chimp that may or may not stick some stuff on my paint (how do you know its really been done?).
If you`re really desperate for the AutoGlym stuff, then check out ebay, I saw one one of the dealer kits on there for about £20 last week. Otherwise, check out Detailing World for advice on looking after your paint, those guys wil know loads more than your average sponge jockey at the dealers.

From my experience of working in a VW dealership, if you pay a dealer £299 for a paint treatment such as Autoglym or Supagard you will be paying for a product worth £30 - £60 depending on the pack. Most of the money is pure dealer profit with the rest going to the valeting company for applying it and commission for the salesman and business manager. I am not knocking these products it's just that you would be far better off buying the pack and applying it yourself. Oh, and yes, you cannot always be sure that it will be applied fully or properly. Whenever I visited the valeting bay at our dealers they had a stockpile of spare paint treatment and upholstery sprays that no doubt sold down the pub. I was told by one valeter that they could often do two cars out of one pack and so you don't need me to tell you what happened to the rest of it. That's the reality friends. If you want the best for your lovely new Golf then do it yourself and don't waste your cash, unless they throw it on for free.

    Absolutley spot on !

Autoglym Lifeshine kits can be bought off ebay for £25 or less - you spent a few hours doing the job yourself but you know what you are getting. Lifeshine needs regular top-ups and care so don't expect a once in a lifetime treatment.

£300 would get you a new car detail from a good and reputable car valetting company, using far better products than Autoglym. Check out detailing world for someone near you.

Yes I was offered this Autoglym treatment for £250 6 weeks ago. I work in the trade so I know I can get these products cheaper.

I wasnt going to have the Autoglym treatment but the dealer offered a great deal and as the car is going to live outside I decided that against the overall cost of the car it was a price worth paying.

Another reason for going for it was that I had specced cream lether and this also gets a protective treatment. What really sold it to me however was the 10 year guarantee. It the leather/interior/paint becomes marked/stained and the provided Autoglym products wont remove them, Autoglym will send out there own specialist to rectify the problem. It they cannot repair it, Autoglym will pay for a full repair with the manufaturer. Fr mem that gives me great piece of mind as I plan to keep the car for many years.

Only time will tell if I have been "a mug" and totally sucked in, but the finish on the car is superb. Hopefully I will never have to give the guarantee a test!!

Thanks guys for your help, I agree with the cost verses value of the treatment, I just wondered whether the £250 voucher at trade in was being offered to everyone. Also if anyone had the experience of actually getting an additional amount at trade in time?
