My Mk3 1.8 8v Golf (AAM engine) can't make it's mind up what revs to be at, at idle.

When starting from cold, it holds around 1000rpm, after warming up it idles at around 900rpm, if you do a quick stop, say fill with petrol, when you re-start it idles at around 1500rpm, then slowly die down to 1000rpm, then after around 5mins will idle at 900rpm again, it's almost like it's going through a warming cycle again.

It also holds the revs as you change gear, maybe for a second or so before dropping.

    Sealy-VAG codes are:

    Camshaft Position
    (HALL) Sensor (G40)
    Static - No Signal

    ------------------------

    00522-158 KWP1281

    Engine Coolant
    Temperature Sensor (G62)
    Sporadic

    ------------------------

    00522-155 KWP1281

    Engine Coolant
    Temperature Sensor (G62)
    Sporadic

    Any clues?

    Thanks
