Hi. I have a 1996 VW Passat 1.9TDI estate. I'm getting very bad fuel cunsupmtion at the moment - for £25 of diesel I only get about 310 miles. I don't know much about diesels. What should I be checking for. I've checked all the hoses and fuel lines and can't see anything leaking. Is there a common fault somewhere. I would appeciate if someone could help!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Thanks

Sorry boss but after my whole calculation your diesel consumption is around 5.4 L/100 km. I think this is very result according to the weather and the age of the car.
    Best regards

Working on the cost of diesel being 95 pence a litre. 25 quid buys you 26.3 litres. 4.545 litres=1 Gallon so 26.3/4.545=5.78. 310 miles/5.78=53.6mpg. I'd be happy with that

I have just bought a 2001 TDI 130 Sport estate and average 41-42mpg, which is very poor as i previously owned a 1998 TDI 110 SE saloon and averaged top 40's and on a regular run from Newcastle to Barnsley at an average of 80-85 mph the car returned 50-52mpg.
That car was brill but im not sure about this one and i am trying a few simple things such as Air mass meter, but this has made no difference.
If you find a simple fault please log it on the forum, as i think there are lots of people out there disapointed with the MPG.
