rear parking sensors.......help,please

well,a bit convoluted,but on the selection of reverse i used to get a short bleep
now i get long drawn out bleep and no chirping as i get close to something
i am aware this is probably a sensor, but once i have located which one it is, can i just isolate the offending unit, or will this give me a seperate new issue to contend with
i had this problem on 2002 a4 3.0 tip q,s.....but now my dads 2002 rover 75 is doing exactly the same thing
now i did not fix the a4, i just sold the car as was,but i wondered if you boys and girls could offer any help for dads sake
sorry to mention rover (twice now) and sorry to drag on so long,im even bored typing it

hi,all, does nobody really have anything to say about this? i see 30 odd people have. had a look but no advice ,what a shame.
is it because it is a rover related question ,because its exactly the same fault i had on my b6 3.0 q ,and i would love to know how the system works

All I can tell you is that I had this problem twice on my last A6, and each time it was caused by a faulty sensor. My dealer replaced the offending sensor each time to return the system to working order. I'd be surprised if the system will operate with less working sensors than it was designed to use (but I'm far from being an expert!

I saw a post on here a while ago saying that you can hear which sensor is faulty if you stick your ear next to each one and listen carefully. Someone else also suggested using a cat!

so what do i do with a cat? throw it behind the car ,and when it screeches ,stop
sounds a bit macabre,but if it works and its cheap who am i to question the usefulness of our fluffy freinds.

Use Vagcom to see what is up - oh it is a Rover, I think you must be lost mate!!! How about trying Rovcom??

yep it is a rover,but the fault was exactly the same on my 3.0 a4

Replace it -- lots of them on ebay right now .

Ignition on-Put car in reverse kneel down and put your ear as near as poss to each sensor . Working sensors will be clicking . Faulty one wont.

One faulty sensor will knock them all out of action.
