I bought my 2003 A3 1.9TDI PD130 s/h roughly a year ago with 75000km (about 47k miles) on the clock. It had no service history so I when it got to 90000km (about 56K miles) I took it to be serviced (Audi dealer here in Lisbon) and got them to check everything and also change the timing belt just in case. The oil they used was a BP oil meeting 505.01 spec, so far so good.

The thing is, I've now done 105000km (about 67k miles), roughly 11k miles since the last service and the service indicator is telling me I've still got 12000km (7500 miles) to go before the next service! Just after the service it said 25000km (about 15600 miles) until next service.

Is my car on the long-life servicing intervals? How can I tell? If I'm using 505.01 spec oil can it last 15k miles or should I book it to be serviced now?

I drive nearly all my miles on motorways at high speed (160-180kmh...yes, in Portugal this is still possible!) if that makes any difference.

Also, about 1000km ago the "Check Oil level" warning came on and I had to top up the oil with half a litre of BP 505.01 oil.

    Michael.

    Hey Michael,

I bought a 1.9 tdi sportback last december (got it in germany, of course) with 20000 km. Got to 30000 and whent to audi here in Setubal for my 1rst revision. Afterwords they told me I would have to wait for the computer to "service me" again, and that should be around 60000 km. So, the 1.9 does go over 30000 km between services

    Regards.

Hi kriax, thanks for the info. Good to see another Portuguese here on the forum

I'm still worried though because I think the oil they used shouldn't be used for more than 15000km or 1 year. I'll check the service invoice again to see exactly which oil they used.

    Regards,
    Michael.

I checked and they put Galp Formula 505 oil in my car which is 505.01 spec and only good for 15000km. They should have used a 506.01 oil for long service intervals

Now I'm going to have to get a service done asap....

You think there's a chance they bs me too? That even though they told me I should be ok for 30k, I should double check it? How did you found out what oil they used?

    Regards,

    kriax.

It's worth checking. I looked on the service invoice (factura) and in the list of "parts" they listed 5 litres of Galp Formula 505.01. This was with Auto Latina in Lisboa who are an official VW/Audi dealer. I checked on the site for Galp and I don't think they make an oil that meets 506.01 spec so if your dealer in Setubal also uses Galp oils then they probably also used 505.01 which is only good for 15000km.

    Regards,
    Michael.

OK, I did the service and got them to change the car to "long life" servicing. They used the proper "Long Life III" (507.00 standard).

The only strange thing is that the service indicator now says "15000km" to next service. Before, when they had don the "normal" service it said "25000km" to next service!! I asked them about that and they said that they 'reprogrammed' the car for long life servicing and that the service indicator takes about 500km to adjust and will do automatically. We will see.....

    Hey guys, tudo bem.

The Audi computer does normally run on long-life service intervals. As much of your driving is on the motorway it stands to reason that the intervals between services will be longer.

However the garage should have put the right oil in to support long life services. If you're worried about this why not change the oil yourself? All you need is oil and an oil filter. It's quite cheap and the job is not difficult to do.

Alternatively there are many places that can do an oil change. Again just make sure they put in the right oil!

    Ciao

    Hi, tudo bem obrigado

I already did the service and got them to change the oil to long-life. My only concern is that the service indicator (which was reset by them) now shows 15000km until the next service not 25000km (or more). They assured me the car had been "reprogrammed" for longlife and that the service indicator would auto-adjust to a higher value after having done 500+ km. I haven't done 500km yet since the service so I don't know.

Is there anything they really need to 'reprogram' for longlife or is it just the service indicator?

    Michael.
