Have just been quoted £372.96 (this includes 20% discount) by local VW main dealer to change Cambelt on 55 Plate Golf 2.0 GT TDI. This does not include the Waterpump.

This added to £300 - 40,000 mile service is going to prove costly.

Firstly, any comments on this price?

Secondly, can anyone recommend Independant specialist in the Bournemouth area to give me a quote.

Thirdly - they are also recommending brake fluid change at £50.

    Thanks in advance

Tell your dealer that other VW dealers are doing an offer of Cambelts for £299 plus around £40 for a water pump.

This deal has been on for around some time now, just ask them to do it cheaper, and im sure they will knock more cash off,

Otherwise just tell them you will go to another dealer...

I have found the below links.

    http://www.vw-gilbert-lawton.co.uk/V...-from-299.aspx

    http://www.vw-bolton-smith-knight-fa...-from-299.aspx

    http://www.sinclairvolkswagen.co.uk/...placement.html

All the dealers have been running with these deals.. -- be brave and just ask for more discount... in the current market a lot of these dealer wont turn you away if they know you will go else where..

Also.. call up over VW garages in your area which are not part of the same group and compare prices..

Other option.. go to a indi.. they may do it for £250 ish..

I would get the service else where if its cheaper..

    Cheers

    Rick

Yes - got mine done two weeks ago. £345 all in INCLUDING water pump. I was told that the offer would be running until the end of this year.

My dealers, Smith Knight Fay in Hyde are part of the Inchcape Group - don't know if this makes a difference - don't see why.

I've recently enquired at VW dealer North East £295 all in, same car as yours.
I could pay about £250 at local specialist, not dealer.
Ask when it should be done, there is some debate 60k or 80 k miles or 4 years?? If you leave it risks are high.
My golf's done 56k and am told it needs doing shortly.

Can I ask if that price included Vat? I have seen that most of the sites above are quting from 295 and it does not mention the VAT.

Also was this just the belt, the belt and kit or belt, kit and waterpump (am assuming not the latter)

Nationwide Service Centre garage quoted £395 to fit, belt kit and waterpump (VAG parts).

As car is only 4 years old i really wanted to have any servicing and fitting done by main dealer - unless i can find an approved independant which is where i am struggling.

    Thanks for all your responses

Sorry, I don't know for sure if it did include VAT or water pump etc. I just asked for the cam belt job price.
    This was Lookers VW.
