I don't seem to be able to use the car's menu and i'd love to know what i'm doing wrong. It states in the manual that you can access the menu by using the buttons on the right hand stalk. This doesn't appear to want to work on mine! Any ideas anyone?

I think you can only access the menu if you have a highline computer, which isn't standard on a Golf SE.

On mine the switch on the right hand stalk just goes through the average mpg, current mpg, temperature, trip etc. Maybe you meant nothing at all happens when you press the switch? And I think it has to show kmh because the main dial only shows mph, and it has to show both if you drive abroad.

The system has two menu settings. 1 is total info from that trip and 2 relates to info from the cars use as a whole. You flip between them by pressing the button on the underside of the right stalk. This is all explained in the manual as is accessing the menu..which I'm struggling with

I think it depends on if the car has a midline or a highline computer. You may find this thread useful - https://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/s...t=menu+midline

If you have those controls on the wiper stalk (at the end of the stalk) in the form of a rocker switch and button below, then you'll only be able to access the menu structure if you have the Highline computer.
I had your system on my MK5 Golf and could only change the screens showing average speed, mpg instant and average etc. etc. The button accesses the two memories and holding the button in for a second or two zeroes that memory chosen. Memory 2 zeroes itself after 9.999miles or 1000 litres of petrol consumed. I zero memory 2 at each total petrol refill and so can see what my average mpg is for that tankful.
