I have 2001 Y plate A6. Want to fit brighter dipped main beam bulb.
Do I need H7 or H1 bulbs? Getting conflicting advise from various shops, anyone know for sure without me having to take a bulb out?
    Thanks in advance

The A6 had both H1 and H7 versions, and I think that your car is around the changeover time.

It should only take 10 minutes to take one out and check it. The left side one is easier to get out than the right.

    Thanks for your help.
Audi tell me H1, Phillips website seems the most car specific so far - tells me H1, with H7 main beam.
    So ordered H1.

    I have a 2001 Y reg A6 quattro tdi, mine are H1.

I brought some new bulbs off ebay, thought mine were H7 as per the advert, come to fit and they are actually H1

    Hope this helps!

mand and dukesA6, the reason for this is that Audi facelifted the A6 range in 2001. So it would seem to me that one of you has a facelifted car and the other doesn't.

    They'll be H1 for pre-facelifts, H7 for facelifts.

Actually, (Mine's a late 2000 - MY 2001). Mine is H1 for dip beam, H7 for high beam. That might be part of the confusion.

Just changed them - they were H1, dead easy to do on both sides.
Bulbs came with free 'whiter' parking light bulbs and 2 for 1 on the H1
