Just MOT'd my pride and joy
The next day driving up a hill giving her some welly and she cut out
I turned around Bump started the car, ticks over but misses badly
its not the head gaskit, does nt smoke at all when running, No knocks or bangs at all
wont start on key, when i checked the feul filter it was 1/3 full?
NO fault lights are on, on the dash when running? iv played with cars a bit in the past,Any 1 got any idea's? im having her plugged in on friday, but as iv found in the past, they dont pin it down enough ie "it could be your feul pump, It could be your ECU"
Theres half a tank of feul in her!!
Does the pump in the tank blow the feul up to the feul filter? or doe the feul pump itselve draw the feul up? any help would be very welcome, as iv limited cash and dont want to send her to the scrap yard in the sky
    many thanks Matt

    Hi there
The pump in the tank just lifts it and the injector pump dues the rest. Is there air in the clear pipe that goes from filter to injector pump? you might need to check the timing, when was the timing belt done, it might of slipped a tooth or the injector pump belt might of done the same, . Get the codes read and post up. you could also look at the vacuum pipes for splits.

Would agree with that. Could even be a bearing that's collapsed on the pulley tensioner.

Thanks for the swift replys lads
yeah there is loads of air in the clear pipe,iv tryed everything
but theres always **** loads of air there? and its odd that its still runs
iv crack the injectors off when its running to try and let the air out,its either drawing air some where or the pump is nt lifting it up,think i deffo have a look at the timing,ne idea's where the marks are? think i need to get feul there 24/7 before i pull the front off,i ll get the codes and post them, seems the pump failing is a commom ish fault,Hoping its not, love V6 beast to the max, going to be a cash drain and a pain to change the pump so she might end up on the Bay yet

Hi again, can you hear the pump in the tank making a noise? You need two people for this, one cranking the engine and one with his ear on the floor of the boot, you should here a faint buzzing sound. My injector pump packed up a month back, and it would not start at all. When I got the pump fixed and put it back on I filled the filter up using a syringe and the same with the clear pipe. The timing needs to be bang on before the car will start, so this needs to be checked, quite a bit of work involved here, front of car in service position and some locking tools, one for each cam, one for the crank and one for the injection pump. I hope you sort it out as they are great cars. Just an after thought, have you checked the fuel line for air leaks from the tank to the filter. Let us know what the codes say on Friday.

    Good luck
    Lyn

theres no buzzing noise coming from there,i tryed taking the pump and sender unit out the tank, that was nt happening for love nor money,God knows how that comes out,its just a mess of plastic tubes in there, well im taking it down tonight to the garage, hopefuly he do it earlier so i can find out, having no diesel in the filter may mean it a simple fix or the injector pump,so fingers crossed
and thanks for the help Lyn

That could be it, if the fuel pump is not or only part lifting the fuel into the reservoir then you will have starting problems. Check link to see what it looks like. It would make sense it being the fuel pump rather than the injector pump as you can get it started, Plus it will be a lot cheaper to sort.

    Good luck
    Lyn.

Hope its not your fuel pump my friend. I recently had to have mine re-con'd on my 2.5 tdi Quattro, at a cost of £1600 by the time I done - not good news.

    Good luck.

If you have a diesel injection specialist in your area I'd go talk to them about it, especially if you can give them the fault codes relating to the fuel side of things. Mine wouldn't start when the engine was warm I know how frustrating things can be with it, so you have my sympathy mate. Hope you can get it sorted. Even though my car has cost me nearly £2000 in total in the past 2 months to keep it on the road, I'm so glad I did it cos I love the car
