I like the price of the Golf TDI 90 and wondered if it could be remapped to 105 PS. Does anyone know if this is possible? I notice that none of the ECU remapping service companies seem to list the new VW TDI 1.6 engine yet. Help?!

Early days as you say for the new common rail 1.6 engines. The 105 will remap to 130bhp so I'd expect the 90 to make 110. Try AMD in Essex or Tunit as they are generally pretty quick off the mark.

I've seen the 1.6 TDI 105 listed on remapping sites but not the 90 version. Which is odd as aren't they both physically the same? In other words won't they both remap to exactly the same power? Does anyone know if there is some physical difference between the two to prevent the 90 remapping to the same power as a remapped 105?

Perhaps some of our site sponsors such as sp-performance could comment. Also check out www.racechip.de/ as this is an add on that can be added or removed by the owner as required.

Looking on the tunit website it is apparent that the 90 PS is not the same engine as the 105. I'm phoning the VW dealership now to upgrade my order to the 105 PS model. Thank you for your help. It has saved me buying the wrong powered car. Phew.

I personally wouldn't go near that racechip box...

    1. 130 euros is way too cheap, i wonder whats actually in the box despite their circuit board images all over the website
    2. They claim you can use the same box on other cars just by altering the connector, internals are therefore not bespoke to engine/transmission for the vehicle
    3. they claim +26% for most of their applications, whether it be an Alpina thats already fairly highly tuned or the Golf TDi
