Recently installed a new JVC double-DIN headunit into my 55-plate Passat and used a powered Fakra adaptor. However, the FM reception is not as good as the original RCD300 headunit and I get nothing on MW. The aerial is definitely being powered as I get no reception when I disconnect the blue power lead.

Does it matter which Fakra connector from the rear-screen aerial I use (brown or cream) or would a twin adaptor give me the decent reception I had with the RCD300, including MW?

Can pick-up an Autoleads PC5-149 Twin Adaptor but it cost significantly more than the single adaptor (£25 vs £5) so could do with some advice before I splash the cash....

    Cheers,

I have fitted a JVC Single DIN unit in mine which has a DAB tuner add on so I don't use FM or MW but when I was researching it I was advised to use the double adapter as without the reception is poo.

Ok cool...I also have the DAB tuner box and internal JVC aerial but the reception is far worse than my previous unit (Blaupunkt Woodstock + internal aerial). DAB breaks-up regularly and at times un-listenable.

Did you go for an external DAB aerial? I may go for that option and buy one with AM/FM included, bypassing the need to get a twin-Fakra adaptor.

I have a twin fakra adapter. My advice is DONT spend the money getting once. My reception is not all that, had better with the standard head unit.

I have an external ariel on of these http://www.dabonwheels.co.uk/Kinetic...ar_aerial.html which is on the boot, however I am going to replace it with a glass mount on the rear screen soon. Not because there are any recpetion issues just that I feel it will be better on the screen and the routing of the cable will be better.

Looked at the glass-mount external Kenitic aerial but the reception rating is not much better than the internal JVC internal HAL aerial.

The only option I can see to give me good DAB reception is an external roof-mount aerial...but hat requires drilling a hole in the roof and spoiling the sleek lines on my Passat!

I must admit I had a look at the glass mount jobbies and they do not get as good ratings as the mag mount I currently have so I think I'll leave well alone.

I used a single FAKRA in my Passat and lost MW in my non-OEM stereo - however, in my Golf, I use a single FAKRA and now I get it....

Doesn't make sense....maybe MW on the dual aerial on the Passat is restricted to one side? Might try switching over the adaptor to the other aerial socket and see if it makes a difference.

It's frustrating cos the radio is really unsatisfactory on FM/MW compared to the RCD300 and the DAB is very intermittant with the internal aerial.

The only thing that's keeping me from swapping back to the RCD300 is the front usb socket which I use to play mps and podcasts from my Nokia's SD card.
