Hey folks, new member finding feet in here and can't seem to find answers to these using search function so any help would be really appreciated.

I have just this week taken delivery of A4 3.0 TDi V6 Manual Quattro S Line Exec in Lava Grey (longest car descriptor ever!!) and so far loving it

Two questions I have please: -

    - Running in - manual states 1,500km running period. This seems quite excessive, especially now where other cars require little, if any, run in period. Is the 1,500km a necessity or is there other best practice/advice? Keen to ensure car gets right treatment in order to get best from it, but also keen to open it up a bit as soon as possible.

    - Phone cradle - as part of S Line Exec spec, it has Bluetooth Phone Prep, Low. So far so good in terms of using the bluetooth connection, however keen to explore using cradle to improve signal and to keep phone charged. I have an Iphone 3GS - can anyone recommend best cradle to use?

    Thanks all

If you have AMI I would not bother with the cradle ( although did have the official Audi one of which I have no complaints thrown in with my deal). Despite the blurb when my 3G Iphone is plugged into the AMI I have no problems with interference or feedback when taking calls. At the same time it charges the Iphone and of course it has all my tunes. When a call comes through there is a smooth transistion from music to phone - as long as aeroplane mode is off!

I have not noticed any great improvement with signal strength with the cradle linked to the roof fin but suppose it depends where you live. Now rarely use the cradle save for long runs where my wife lets me use the home iPod.

Running in - I did take the first 500 miles smoothly but then got bored with not utilising the 211hp! Seems fine to me with 1500 on the clock.

I was quoted £98 for the iPhone 3GS cable by my Audi dealer. Obviously this is the recommended Audi piece of kit but seems very steep to me.

Despite having mobile phone prep low like you I have been using a standard iPhone car charger, into the socket in the armrest and Bluetooth. The Bluetooth is superb and you get all the phone controls you'll need from the steering wheel, it even works with the phone in my pocket. I cannot really see the justification for buying the special cradle right now.

I have also used a headphone jack lead to connect the iPhone to the stereo and this works OK although you don't get all the iPhone functions through the car's interface. I am not sure the cradle would give this in any case so does seem a little pointless.

I did 1000 miles run in and it was great until my first service - approx 20,000 now I find fuel economy is not as good, I have no idea why this would be apart from a software update that is standard. I used to be able to see 52 mpg on the DIS but now now, matter how hard I try rubbish......or reality
