    Hi

I'm about to upgrade my mobile to a new LG750 (win mobile 6.5), the phone states it supports the PBAP bluetooth profile but no the SAP or rSAP profile. Does anyone know which profiles the Bluetooth kit on the B8 supports.

Please don't suggest speaking to Audi - frankly they don;t have a clue, the list of "Supported" phones is woefully out of date - doesn't have phones that came out in 2008.

If anyone has a GM750 and has successfully managed to sync it then I'd been keen to know your're experience on this.

If you have Phone Prep Low, the car supports only HFP (Hands Free Profile) but you can purchase an rSAP cradle for the plate in the armrest to allow Remote Sim Access.

Phone Prep High supports both HFP and rSAP.

The LG GM750 does not suport rSAP or SAP but supports the more advanced PBAP (Phone Book Access Profile) - does the MMI in the B8 support this?

I'm fairly certain the answer is no (unless anyone else knows better?) I know it's not as good a solution, but doesn't the phone support HFP?

I dont think PBAP replaces rSAP as its slightly different from what i read.

"The Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) announced the Phone Book Access Profile (PBAP) and enhancements to the existing Hands-Free Profile (HFP 1.5). These new profiles will greatly improve phonebook and dialing handling in the car, making it more convenient and straight-forward for drivers, car manufacturers and phone manufacturers to use Bluetooth wireless technology.

With the PBAP, the information from the mobile's phone book will be made available in the hands-free car kit making it accessible to the user. The user can simply download and browse the phone book from any mobile phone or PDA. The HFP 1.5 is updated to include common features from the mobile phone such as enhanced call control, phone status indicators, response and hold, and information about the subscriber number. In addition, audio quality is enhanced. "

Sounds like its a more advanced way of handling the address book/phone control where as rSAP is redirecting the sim card from your phone into the phone built into the car and thus rendering the phone inactive and has the benefit of using the roof antenna (I stand to be corrected though!)

Of course what you really want is JPAP (Jake's Phone Access Profile).

    This profile:

connects to the car to the phone when you put the key in the ignition (not when you unlock the car to get something out)

switches the sim card off and transfers it into the car phone in 1/10 of a second (rather than possibly in 2 mins with a wing and a prayer) to use the roof antenna

Allows your phone to still recieve text messages and emails (rather than losing all your incoming text messages (rsap adapter)) and displays them in the MMI

Disconnects when you remove the key from the ignition unless you are mid call (rather than hanging your phone after a 2min delay like the rsap adapter...)

Just use the on line data base to determine phone compatibility instead of messing around in the world of could I should I will it wont it.Gods sake buy a phone which is approved.
    http://www.audi.co.uk/audi/uk/en2/ne...unication.html

I must explain this 5 times every day to phonests and still people buy a phone without checking if it will work with Audi Bt systems then they come in the dealers ranting and raving that blueberry poo phone wont sync or the reception is poor not considering gsm signals or compatibility because its the dealers fault they have no brain cells to check if the c ntstomers phone will work.
Love you, my erickson works flawlessly because I checked before I bought it. argggggggggggggggggggggggh

Additional please make sure you understand which system you have as prep low differs greatly to bluetooth as prep low is universal prep with the cradle base for gsm and charge where as bluetooth is designed for sap with added functionality without a cradle base as the bt unit uses the gsm direct with no hardwire link.I could post more but its pointless as the above link has loads of info covering media players and phone FAQ.

Today I have dealt with a very offensive phone freak who demanded we buy the car back because his phone will not allow phone book transfer, honestly get a grip phone £200 car £35000 buy back, no educate yes, Audi crap no, customer ignorant yes yes yes.Sorry not a happy A8 today after taking abuse from a complete idiot and belittled by a sales fool even worse.

Sorry for the thread hijack but is becoming a little bit to much with the whole phone issue, there is talk that phones may well be banned from vehicles in the future to prevent accidents and I'm all for that as peoples dependency on there phone is ridiculous as I wonder how the human race coped without them.
Usual comments "it worked in the BMW"no it bloody did not, I expect better from a prestige brand. If you use the on line list you can see there is a great selection available and its updated frequently

I don't generally disagree with the "check before you buy" approach. However, a lot of folk use their phones mostly for business in the car and a lot of them will have phones forced on them by their employers; indeed a lot of them will have cars forced on them by employers. Employers that allow freedom of choice for phones and cars might not be as widespread so as to allow that above advice to be followed.

My company would allow me to choose my car, for example, but they forced a Blackberry Curve on me - I much preferred my ancient Nokia 6310i (I really did, don't laugh) but I couldn't keep it in action, sadly.

So people expect that things with Bluetooth capabilities will just work together. Disregarding all the intricacies of whether Bluetooth is a universal standard, or not, people expect it to work 'cos the stuff they're using says "it does Bluetooth" and it has that logo n' stuff...

Audi compatibility lists are, therefore, to be taken under advisement, I'd say... Audi are not exactly known for being forward looking in their testing of all the kit out there - some of it you just have to try, assume it will work, but on the sad occasion it doesn't... realise that Audi will hide behind 'the list'... even if we're talking about a standard Bluetooth phone or a standard USB disk drive...

But then you're into a pretty grey area, whose fault is it if two things that you'd expect both work to a "standard" don't actually work together? Ah.

I wonder if phones really will be banned from cars... can't see it myself. Is there a cost to the economy? The working class have got to be kept working at full tilt, even while hiking it up and down the motorways of the country each day... or at least give the impression of working by attending conference calls.
    Cheers, Hippo

Yes there is some truth in your comments and believe me it drive me bonkers.I wish there was a common system which allowed all phones regardless of software and firmware version and a simple user friendly un complicated operation so owners could simply transfer from car to car without all the hassle.
I with sw updates were available via usb from a Audi site for owners to update to keep the bt unit up to date with the ever changing phone types.
I do see the owners issue and lack of product knowledge with dealers (sales) but I'm drained and wake up in the night shouting "1234 paired "

A8 Tech - you sound a very angry person. Of course taking the view that the car is the fault is not correct, however Audi (and for that matter the rest of car industry) are well know on their backwards attitude in this area. For example their are phones that are nearly 2 years old from well established manufacturers not included on the database - to suggest that I rely on this is quite unreasobable.

The phone companies are equally to blame and the looser in this is the customer - you know the one who pays your wages!

Wouldn't it be fantastic if the car industry and the phone industry could cooperate on this - perhaps drive the technology to being more consistent so that it wasn't such a lottery, then I would not have to rely on going to my local mobile shop and ask if I can borrow their demo model to see if it will pair with my car - as thankfully I did today, as I know now the GM750 will not pair adequately from the A4 [B8]).

Phone use in car is here to stay (unless the nanny state wants to prevent conversations in cars altogther) - what is required is tehcnology to make it as safe as possible. I'm seeking full bluetooth compatibility so that I can look up a person to call through the steering wheel, rather than groping around on the device with one hand on the wheel, which is what I would have to do if the phonebook does not sync to the device.
