    can anyone help me? my vr6 starts but then cuts out straight away the batt had died so i have replaced it the central looking will lock the doors put the windows up but will not unlock you have to manualy open it?

    Could be the alternator, not charging the battery correctly.

    Get a meter out and test the voltage from the alternator to the + on battery.

    Should read around 12V +

    Sounds like the immobiliser key isn't being picked up by the ECU.

    Does it run for about 2-3 seconds then just die? If so I suspect that the ECU and the Key aren't talking to each other. Have you tried your spare key?

    If you can, (with a window OPEN) try pressing the locking button on the key during the brief seconds the engine is running, sometimes this will resync them. If not probably off to VW or a VAGCOM equipped man.
