Hi all,

I've just bought a 98 A4 2.8 quattro off a dealer. After some haggling due to no proof of the belt ever being changed (83000 miles), and that tax ran out today, we agreed he'd pay the labour costs and the tax, and I'd buy the parts. This suited me, as I knew that I'd be getting proper bits and not dodgy copy parts.

I spoke to him yesterday about the price total, and he mentioned that he had to shop around for a gasket set.

Now, I've only ever had vehicles with chain driven cams, so my knowledge of belt drives is limited, but which gaskets would be required for a cambelt change? The only one I can think of is the water pump.

Are the belt covers fitted with gaskets? If so, why?
