I'm the proud owner of a '99 B5.5 S4 2.7 Biturbo Avant.. however in the last few days both the ABS and ESP yellow warning lights have lit up on the dash, and going off the manual and various googlings has led me to the conclusion that it could be the ABS module that is at fault.. the drive seems normal though, no slideyness going round corners quick or wheel locking when I brake hard.. could be sensors too..

At this stage I am unsure exactly what the problem is; I have no VAG COM cable at the moment to find out myself and I am a bit wary of just taking the car to my local garage as they will charge me for the luxury of using their fancy £50K diagnostics computer

I borrowed a colleague's VAG COM cable last night (they have a Golf VR6 of similar age) but it appears to be the wrong type and wouldn't actually fit the port - which is the one in the rear ashtray behind the central arm rest.

A large number of the places selling these cables online seem to neglect to show a picture of the actual connector, i.e. shape and pin layout, so I have no idea if it is the correct one, mine seems to be a classic 'D' shape but with two extra nodges at the top. Kinda looks like a scart connector. I'm sure this question gets asked a lot but I couldn't find answers that match precisely what I'm after..

So where can I get one of these elusive cables from? How can I be sure it's the right type? Is there a specific port 'name' or type? I'm not in a position to buy one of the £300 ones at the mo - and on average these cheaper cables seem to be about £15-£20 and generally do the job.. and is still cheaper than my local garage would charge me for using theirs.

I just want the right error codes so I know what bits to order to get my baby tip-top again!

Any help or advice greatly appreciated.

    Try Gendan here - http://www.gendan.co.uk/product_VAGUSB.html

They are official RossTech distributors (makers of VCDS, né VAGCOM)

Thanks- however looking at the picture it still looks like the wrong connector (identical to the one I tried last night) - it doesn't have the two little plastic notches at the larger end of the 'D' connector.. I'll take a snap of the offending connector when I get home later.. see if it sheds any light.

    Cheers

    From the link:

This seems to be the right location for the port, I shall investigate the cable suggested.

I'm also looking to go see the folks at Awsome GTI soon for a health check, fingers crossed..

    Cheers
