I have an audi a6 18.t 2001 . not had it long. Driving it the other day the oil low presure light came on. (i thought it was the low oil level light) so i toped it up and the light went away. then it came on again today during the middle of a 50 mile trip. I assumed i hadent put enough oil in as every time i came to a junction it went off, so topped it up a bit more when i got home. About 2 hrs after that i quickly poped out ( a 2 mile drive) and the light come on again and then about 200meters away from my house the engine started making a rattling noise (sounds just like something stuck in the fans) and allmost a whistling noise. When i got home i read the manual and realised the light was an oil low presure light. Could i of possible seriously damaged the engine?

I will be taking it to a garage at some point this week (200 yards away and all downhill , so i wont even have to start it). But if the wost comes to the worst and i do need a new engine then does anyone know of a place near suffolk that does reconditioned engines? I have heard there is a place in essex but have nomore details than that.

you will probably have to budget for a new turbo as well. if you buy a recon engine, make sure you buy one from a member of the federation of engine remanufacturers, and look into them before buying, i.e. trading standards, as there are a few dodgy people out there. a good company like ivor searle will set you back a bit more money usually, but you get what you pay for.
