    Hi...

After having had both the software upgrades on my car over the last couple of months, I'm still not happy with my car.
The main problem I had was the surging / pulsing feeling whilst driving at anything over 80. The latest software seems to have fixed it by 90%, which I am happy to live with as I hope Audi would improve it with additional software upgrades over time.
The second fault is to do with the S Tronic gearbox up shifts which have got worse when they updated the Mechatronic Unit.
I have been onto Audi UK to ask for another car so to compare it with, but have been told that they are only a inporter of cars and they don't carry stock. They said I should contact my suppling dealer and ask the question, which I have.
Now they have got back to me and said that their master tech has a Q5 with the same problems and updates as mine, they also have a A5cab 3.0TDI with the S tronic box which to my knowledge doesn't suffer from any of the problems.
They have offered to let me have the Q5 for a couple of days to compare, but I think it's a bit pointless really. I think I should be taking the A5cab out as it's suppose to be faultless.
The master tech I'm told lives about 30 miles away and he'll take mine home to compare.
I like to know what you lot feel about this. Should I stick with the Q5 or ask for the A5cab.
    I'm thinking A5cab....

sorry to hear of your problems.

IMO. both cars are a pointless test.
you need an A4 2.0T FSI quattro S-tronic S-line saloon.
the q5 is a completely different car with probably different gear ratio's where as the a5cab is a bloody diesel. a different engine. both incomparable to your a4 2.0T.

Whats the point in trying any other car.

Have they said that "its working to specification" if so then get them to make a public statement that "specification has a rubbish up shift on the gearbox" and unless they do that dont accept it as an answer.

If the master tech agrees there is a problem, that should be the end of it.
"Its broken, you agree, fix it. I'll have a S5 loaner till its sorted... thanks"

-easy for me to say.. its not my car.

It angers me that after paying good money for a car that people get the run around if there is a problem that they cant fix.

    Good luck

I agree - test the A5cab, then you can cite this as the standard which you expect your car to perform to. Concluding that the Q5 has the same problem as your own car doesn't really give you any further leverage with Audi - they are already acknowledging there is a problem by offering to let you try it out.

    Cheers Jop..

I'm told the Q5 has the same problems as mine does and it's had the same updates as mine, I'm also told that it suffers from the same problem with the S Tronic gearbox. This I'm told is due to the software upgrade on the Mechatronic Unit.
So to put it basically it's the same as mine but in a different shape.
With the A5cab been a 3.0TDI diesel it doesn't suffer from the two problems I'm having so I should be able to see what and how a none faulty S Tronic gearbox should act like. I can also compare it to my Golf GTI DSG I had as at the moment this is all I can compare mine with.
If the A5cab's S Tronic gearbox performs correctly then I'll be able to say to Audi I've tried like for like and mine's not right and what are you doing to rectify it...
If there isn't a fix in the pipe line then at least I can move on to the next set.

At the moment I feel like I've lost a really good car and bought a duffer.
I work long and hard to be able to afford a car like this and at the moment I'm really PI$$ED OFF.

Cheers for the support... That's my thinking

Last week whilst I was at work on nights I got thinking that I couldn't care less if I handed the car back, I was that feed up with it.
After having had the second update the surging has almost gone and the fuel economy has slightly improved around town, so in a way I'm happier but not totally happy...

I'm very surprised that the A5 3.0 TDI has S-tronic. It's only listed in the A5 specification as available with "Tiptronic".
The only A5 available with S-tronic is the 2.0 T petrol.

    Maybe it's a special?

On second thoughts, the A5 cabriolet is listed as available as 3.0 TDI S-tronic.

I'm puzzled though about why the problem would be present on an A4 but not A5. I thought chassis, gearbox, etc, are the same.

The problem is only on certain cars which have both the 2.0T and the S Tronic gear box. A4 A5 A5cab And Q5 models

I have rang Grimsby Audi and have booked out the A5cab for Mon till Wed, so I will hopefully know what a S Tronic should drive like....

    Hi all...

Having gone to Audi Grimsby on Monday to pick up a A5cab and to be told it was SOLD I've had to take the Q5 with the 2.0T + S Tronic. I'm glad I didn't by one of these as the MPG is shocking. I haven't done many miles in it but at 14-16MPG I can't afford to...

Any way I got a phone call from them saying that Hull Audi haven't updated the car like they had said they had (I think they have) and they plan to do it that afternoon and that the service manager would be taking the car home to try...

This afternoon I got another call from Grimsby Audi to say I could keep the Q5 for a few more days as the updates hadn't fixed the problem. They were trying to contact Audi in Germany via the web as they wanted to send some data down the line for them to look at.

So for now I'm cruising around in a silver pimp machine.
The only plus points for the Q5 is the leg room in the back, the electric tail gate (open n shut) and the high driving position.

    Any update Martin?

Now that I have just under 1000 miles on the clock I have a bad feeling that I have the same issues as you with the upshifting on the S-Tronic. I was hoping they would go away with the running in, but there is a definite delay in the upshifting particularly going from 1-2-3 (most noticable on paddle shifting).

Have my car booked in for a check up on this in a few weeks time. Would help to pass on whatever solutions (if any) your dealer has found (bit confused if its Hull or Grimsby Audi looking at yours).

All a bit disappointing on what otherwise is a great car.
