hate to do this on my first post.

bloke come down with his audi to sell to me, i took it for a test drive and it pulled and drove lovely, so i payed for it.

in the morning i turned it on and loads of white smoke come out the exhaust and it stunk of burning, like oil burning if anything.

first thoughts are bye bye turbo but the smoke wasn't blue, there no mayo round the filler cap so head gasket ok.

i sure its the turbo but what can people recommend????

    thanks

From what you describe it sounds like the turbo has failed. This is normally due to sludge in the sump and just fitting a new turbo is no use. I would be very wary about driving it and I suggest the sump is pulled ASAP to check for sludge. How are you going to get an MOT without a cat?

it was already MOT'd. going to change it as its way to loud for my liking, depends what kind of bill im looking at to get this problem fixed!

it smokes as soon as the exhaust gases are warm, ike after 30-40 seconds.

deos that mean internals are buggerd aswell? what damage am i looking at?

    thanks for the help....

Best bet would be to drop the oil, then remove the sump to give it a good clean out.Put it back and fill back up with some good quality fully synthetic oil 5W40 is what i use. Then,do a compression test to make sure the engine is still a gooden. If that shows up ok,look on ebay for a recon turbo as they sell on there for £100-£150 ish.If it is running at 230 Bhp it will at least have a K03s turbo, but possibly the K04 if its got the different manifold fitted. But so many people remap a standard 150 and qoute stupid figures that just arent true. When looking for a turbo on ebay,to determine if its a K03,it will have 12 fan blades,if its a K03s it will have 8 fan blades.Hope this helps
