Sorry if this is in the wrong section or is a silly question, I'm new to the forum

I have won a MK5 GT TDi 140 on ebay, and subject to it being as described, I will be picking it up at the weekend.
Currently I have a MK4 GT TDi 110, which has a lovely Alpine head unit in with iPod connection. It is the iPod connection that is invaluable to me as I don't have to mess around with CDs

I am wondering how easy it would be to put the Alpine into the MK5? I know there would be a gap, but am I right in thinking Halfords do bits which 'fill the gap'? I am not necessarily wanting to do the change myself, would be prepared to pay for it to be done at an audio place.

Any ideas/suggestions? Also, if it isn't possible to change the CD player, are there any iPod connections/convertors I could get for it?

    Thanks in advance

you can get a double din adapter on ebay.
    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/New-VW-Volkswa...item5883dadeae

leaves a cubby below the stereo. i think you need a couple of adapters too. one for the wiring and one for the canbus.

these should help if you want to remove the stereo your self, its quite easy most people do it themselves

do a search on here theres tons of threads about this.

    good luck

Thanks very much, the fascia on ebay is exactly what I was looking for. The cubby hole at the bottom is useful to put my iPod in

The guide was handy, but showed how to replace the standard CD Player with a Sat Nav one, so not quite the same thing. I did do a search but found nothing relevant

It's an Alpine, can't remember what model, I'm afriad. So much smaller than the standard fit. Maybe best to pay someone to install it... Could ask OH to have a go...

Having come out of a Focus ST with a Sony Headunit I am massively disappointed with the stereo, I only want to spend around £100 and I'm not too bothered if it's a double din unit, 2 questions............

1, Can you recommend any head units for around that price? would I get a better sound with that sort of money?

2, Does the adapter look okay in the car when you go from double din to a single unit.

Sorry that was actually 3 questions.

    Cheers
