Evening all - got a slight problem. I have a six speed, mark 4 130 estate sport.

Noticed in the last 3000 miles a slight misfire when warming up to 90 degrees. Not noticed any problems when hot. Car is flying otherwise. 104 k on the clock. I have serviced it to the dot with proper long life oil and vag parts since 27 k although not by a main dealer.

Have had one incidence where the misfire got really bad and heard a tappet type noise but turning the car off and on again rectified the problem (two months ago)

Have a mate who works for vw - ran vag com came up with a injector one probelem initially so we reset it and ran the car for another two weeks. The car misfired a couple of times again but the next time we ran vag com no fault showed.

My mate thinks it could be a injector? or worse the cylinder head as he has seen some 130 engines showing a slight fault where the injector wears a groove? and causes problems when cold.

Has anybody got any ideas ? or similar problems / solutions? I trust my pal but am interested if any body has any ideas?

    thank you people

    Mov

Im answering my own question, but does anybody think this could be the injector loom breaking down? have read similar threads on here.

Quite possibly and a quick fault code read would answer that question for you.

    Thanks Crasher.

Problem was even after the engine was missing slightly the second time we ran vag com no fault came up. I will try it again.

Why does the loom play up when cold?

Replaced the Harness last monday - problem gone so far! Done about 1000 miles - local stuff and a trip to cornwall where I averaged a record 53 to the gallon at between 70 and 80 all the way!
My misfire was only really evident as the engine was warming up but was definately getting worse. I reckon its well worth changing it if you have any doubts. My mate who works for vw main dealer fitted it and even he wasnt totally convinced it would work but I guess he doesnt see a lot of 100k cars to be fair to him.

Remember no fault code was showing up!

As others have said well worth trying!
