    Hi Guys/Gals
I have an 04 plate gt tdi 2.0. I got it remapped a day or so ago and noticed a slight slip in the clutch in higher gears.

I took it straight away to a VW specialist and have booked it in for a clutch change.

The question I have is is it an absolute must that the flywheel be changed?

I have had no problems with it whatsoever and the Vw technician drove it and said there is no noise or vibration from the flywheel.

My worry is that i need to get it changed in the following months but the price of nearly a grand for the clutch and flywheel is putting me off changing the flywheel if i dont need to.

    Any thoughts???

    Thanks

don't tell me. It slips in 5th and 6th when asking for power say for an overtake or lane change on motorway and between 1800 and 2200 rpm.

I have exactly the same with my 2004 2.0 gttdi @ 193 bhp.
Mine has been this way for 18 months and with a clutch now a quarter of the value of the car, i can learn to drive accordingly.

    hi
just done a clutch change on my sons 2004 sdi with 87k. Not a bad job just took a bit of time. The release bearing was seized causing excessive wear on itself and cover plate. Driven plate had a little bit left. The flywheel looked ok with no debry to indicate problems, so left it on. I used a valeo 3 piece clutch kit which cost me around 93 pounds, it was on special offer at the time. VW technicians have a test they do with the dmf and if it fails and you intend to keep the car, replace it with a good quality new one, luk are a good bet. I'm not a fan of extracting more power out of an already powerfull car. These are expensive days.
