Major Service

I have bought a 1996 Audi A4 1.8. It is a nice car with full service history up to 2 years ago, so it's seriously due a service.

I have just looked at the Audi site and it prices a major service at £199. Can anyone tell me what is actually done in a major service.

I would just ring them and ask what it entails - then ring at least 2 or 3 other independent specialists to get quotes from them. Just my tuppence worth.

What is the mileage on the car, as the cam belt would be due again on age, and if this is done then you would be advised to get the water pump changed at the same time, unless you have proof that this has been done at some time in the past.

If it has full dealer servic history, then you will need to change the fuel filter, as this will more than likely be the original one...

At your age of car, I would seriously consider only taking it to a specialist.

Where are you based, as other people on here may know a good specialist near to you?

Spark plugs (petrol)
Fuel Filter (diesel)

The oil used is not longlife so is only suited to cars on fixed interval service as it should be changed at least every 12 months.
