    Golf 1.4tsi160 due soon

As the owner of a civic ivtec which loves oil almost as much as petrol.
I was wondering if the tsi 160 uses oil and how often people have to top it up.

You can have two identical engines, the one can use some oil and the other not,and there is no explanation for this, but the answer to your question,is no.

My past experience with Audis has been that they use more oil in the first 5000 miles than the rest of their lives.

So far, my GT TSI has done 2500 miles, and hasn't used a drop.

The industry standard for acceptable oil consumption is 1 litre for every 1000kms (600miles) driven.

That means you could pull into a fuel station, fill up with oil and check your fuel, instead of filling up with fuel and checking your oil, as we were told to a few years ago.

For mazda rx-8s - you are indeed supposed to top up the oil every 2nd fill...

Somehow wonder whether this makes any difference with CO2 ratings - it's virtually a 2 stroke !

My friend has had two Mazda RX8 and indeed still has one- God knows why, as they drink both oil and petrol and you're not supposed to start them up and just drive a few yards otherwise the engine and rotor seals won't like it.

At 2000 miles, my Golf hasn't yet required any oil but there again I don't thrash my engines nor do any motorway driving at high speeds and so I may not be representative of other drivers here.
