I have a 2009 MK VI 1.4 TSI (160PS) Golf with the standard RCD310 stereo but with the DAB radio upgrade. Unfortunately as I upgraded to the DAB the MDI was omitted (due to previous compatibility issues) leaving me with only an Aux-in socket in my armrest which isn't great for using my Ipod with.

Does anybody know if the retrofit Ipod connector (now avaliable through VW) is any good? Does it enable you to see menu's like that on the Ipod, on the RCD310 screen? Can the menu's also be viewed on the display between the speedo and rev counter and navigated/accessed using the multi function steering wheel (like you can with the bluetooth telephone kit)?

Lastly does anybody now whether or not I am able to retrofit an RCD 510 in place of my RCD310? If I can, any idea on approx costs and will my DAB still work? I am not that keen on the looks of the RCD310 and am contemplating the upgrade.

You help would be much appreciated!

Yes the RCD510 is a direct replacement for the 310. It is literally a 5 minute job.
Have a look at this guide it is for a RNS510 but the principal is exactly the sme.
In fact you may be better off getting the RNS as you can pick them up from ebay for £500 odd not that much more than the RCD.

Not sure if the DAB is an add on or actually part of the stereo although this suggests it might be part of the unit.

I don't know about the retrofit ipod connector.
