Mk V Door Lock Problem

HELP - I am struggling with my drivers door lock intermitanly operating on the remote. All other doors open without fail but the drivers door lock locks o'k but most times refuses to open with the remote, although it will operate with the key. THe lock makes a strange bouncing noise when I use the remote, both when locking or attempting to open it.
I have been told by a local dealership that to rectify the fault the complete door will need dismantling, including "the skin". I wasn't brave enough to ask for a price as I find it difficult to imagine that this is the only way around the problem.

Has anyone got any suggestions (nice ones please)?

Same problem here too.....all other doors open no probs but the drivers door (RHD) remains locked, this happens intermitently and only started recently.
Did you manage to sort yours out ?

Hi Mike,
Gave up trying to avoid it, but had to have the door locking mechanism replaced and everything now works perfectly. It cost £173.50 total to supply and fit at Volkswizard, an independent dealer and service agent in Wythall, just outside Birmingham.
Based on my experience the problem got worse and the door would no longer lock/unlock at all using the remote, and as no-one had any other ideas to offer, was left with no choice but to pay what I now think was a reasonable price.

i thought i was the only one!!

erm... i gave mine a couple of thumps near the door handle and it opens after that. a check on the vagcom shows the door locking mechanism is defective. i think i am gonna thump mine till it really gives way... hehe.

mine behaves that way after i try to open the door when its locked... some sorta security feature??
