Last Christmas, my missus got me a voucher to use for a track day. It was the intention to take my Mazda 3 Sport but I never got around to it before selling getting the Golf, so the TDi got a blast yesterday.

Fuel economy was great getting there....61.4. The average for the 122 track miles I covered was 23.1. Tyres stood up to it really well with hardly any wear, likewise the brakes. I did note that the Potenzas do get sticky when hot. Just about got 102mph along the pit straight.....but the anchors have to go on before the awkward drop into Paddock Hill bend....I didn't want an engine bay and suspension full of gravel, by running wide.

I didnt thrash it (although I obviously drove harder than normal), nor did I really tank into corners but that's not what I wanted out of the day. I did have lots of fun however, and it was nice not to worry about speed. A small number of cars booked in meant an open pit lane so track time was unlimited but I kept my sessions to roughly 15 or 20 mins......enough for me, and the car. Track regulations meant that the lights, both front and rear, had to be taped up.

Overall, a great day, and I learnt a lot about my Golf too, finding out where it's limits would be. Hopefully though, I'll never be in a situation where I have to worry about that.
