hi
recently bought a high mileage (128k) 55 reg golf sdi hatch. Just after buying it I noticed a pronounced judder whilst braking. The three os strut top mounting bolts had just about unscrewed themselves. They were tightened up and 90% of the vibration whilst braking has disappeared, some still remains particularly at high speed. I have just looked at the dics and pads which look almost new and have had a dial guage on both discs to measure any run-out, almost none was detected. I was wondering if the wishbone bushes might be worn on that side (os). due to the strut having been loose at the top and moving about.

The other issue I have is the engine after a run when its nice and hot, shakes about a bit ticking over. Do high mileage mk5 diesels wear the engine/gearbox mounts? Its had a clutch at around 95k, probably didn't have a new dmf put in. Clutch works great with no noises at all. Was hoping the shudder at tickover was not the dmf and just weak engine mounts.

I do all my own maintenance and would appreciate any informed suggestions, thanks.
