I find the "fuel econometer" in the DIS quite useless in my B7 2.0TFSIQ. The intervals it measures over must be really low. I'm new to Audi, but I'd like it to act like in my BMW 7-series, where I can reset it and it will then measure continously until reset again. It won't just calculate the average over the last 20 or so miles like the Audi does. I like having one for trip averages and one for long time average... is that possible?

DIS has 2 trip computers. So I reset the first each time I fill with fuel so I can see the distance and average MPG for that tank and I leave the second running all the time so I can see the average since I bought the car.

To change between then there is a button on the underside of the wiper stalk. Click that and you should get trip 1, trip 2 and a menu.

That's how I would like it to work, but I don't believe it does. I reset one of them a month ago or so, but if I'm hard on the gas, like ONE hard accelleration, it affects the average noticeably.

I am not using the "current" usage function... which works as it should.

    What am I not getting?

That's not how the trip computer works.

DIS 1 resets every time you get in the car (or continues counting from last time if you restart the car within 2 hours).

DIS 2 is the long term average since you last reset it, or the battery was off.

You can tell which mode you are in by looking for a little "1" or "2" on the display in the top right corner. You can change the mode by using the "Reset" button with a short press to skip through the modes. Most B7s have a menu system also.

Hopefully that will solve your problems grr.

The DIS is woefully inaccurate too unless you adjust it with VAG-Com. If you want a smart way of tracking your average fuel consumption between refuelling use spritmonitor (click the petrol pump in my signature)
