New guy milage quiery re:TDI's, advice needed!!!

Hi,

I'm Jim from York! Im now doing 19000miles a year and want/need a diesel!!! I'm pretty open minded and dont mind if its Audi/VW/SEAT/Skoda, 'PD' or not.

I dont want to spend any more than £4K, but in this price bracket there seem to be a lot for sale with 130,000 miles so a few questions on this really!:

1)Is it just co-incidence?
2)I'm sure these engines will do silly milages, how many has yours done??? (ASSURE ME!!!)
3)What (if anything) goes wrong and when?
4)Is there a major service around this milage (eg cambelt service)

There are plenty in my local area for sale, but am really nervous about touching any car that has done in excess of 100,000miles (don't know why!!??) but with a little guidence from you experts I'm sure I can make the correct choice!!!

Look at the high mileage Passat thread (Here) for some pointers or the general mileage thread (Here).

When properly maintained they'll go to the moon and back a few times over. The key is a full service history and proper maintenance.

Avoid the early TDi engines and go for a 130 TDi if you can find one. V6 TDi sounds heavenly but isn't very economical.

Without too much idea of what you want it's hard to recommend something.

I realise I didn't answer your actual questions so;

1 - Nope, most are fleet cars and I'd guess they're all of the same age
2 - See my above thread linkages
3 - Suspension components on the Passats
4 - Cambelt should be changed at least twice by the time they hit 130k
