    Hi,

I have a feeling my front shock(s) are on their way out/gone out! Getting quite a lot of knocking when driving, especially on the drivers side. I cant replicate the noise from 'bouncing' on the car from above, its obnly when movement come from beneath e.g. it was very noticable recently when I had to park my car in a field and as i drove over the bumpy ground it was a very definated rumbling noise. I can feel it through the steering column too.

I would be grateful if anybody could point out some possible problems this may be? My father seems to think it may be a shock problem, if so, does anybody know a ball part figure of what I should expect to pay for replacement shocks (standard does not sporty or anything)?

I have taken the car to a specialist but ironically I couldnt get the car to replicate the noise again, although it is slowly getting worse - most noticable turning right at slower speeds where the ground is bumpy.

    Thanks
    Miles

Re-torquing the bolts of the upper and lower control arms could help.

It could be the top bolts for the shocks too (inside the engine bay)

It could be your CV joints.

Or, as you said, it could be your struts/shocks.

Replacing them isn't too hard if you access to a spring compressor. It should take a proficient mechanic a few hours (if that)

Shocks don't normally knock, they just lose their damping ability.
I just had mine done, they were about £45 inc. each for SACHS which are what the OE ones are. You should also replace the top strut mounts which are £12 each.
While it's apart, you should replace any arms which are worn.

    Hey Group,
I'm in the market for a great set of shocks/struts. Anyone with firsthand experience? Thanks, john
