ok new problem the head unit works fine however, it only plays when the key is in the ignition which is fine, if i take the key out then put it back in say 2 mins after the memory on the head unit is fine, if i put the key in say an hour later the memory has been wipe

have you tried swapping the red and yellow cables on the HU wiring harness?

the ignition and battery cables are reversed on the mk3 loom, a bit of splicing will fix the problem, Had to do it myself, sorted now though!
