my 96 2.6 a4 is running slightly lumpy.
it feels like its holding back when you try to excelerate.. also when at idle the engine looks smooth but when sat in it you can feel what feels like a slight misfire...and if i raise the revs and hold them around 1500 rpm...it sounds like a popping/ coughing in the exhaust..and the revs fluctuate.

ive changed the plugs n leads..checked the small vacume hoses etc..cant see anything amiss

    anybody had this??

went and saw a vag specialist in aylesbury..but it could be a couple of weeks before he can look at it.

i have no engine lights or anything on..

it could do with plugging in to see if any faults come up...is there anybody in the bucks /oxon area the has this vag fault reading thingy??

    Hi,
I have had some of the problems you have mentioned with my 2.8 quattro. I have had a couple of flatspots within the rev range when accelerating, but only once or twice. I also get a shudder from the engine when idling, but no misfiring. I have had the car on a snap on fault diagnostic machine but no faults was reported. Someone suggested it could be the MAF sensor, which I am gonna try replacing. I have also spoke to a company called AMD Technik who have told me that some fault diagnostic equipment wont show certain faults, I dont know if this is true or not.
As soon as I have cured mine I will let you know, or if you get yours sorted first let me know cheers

I'm also getting a jerky response while driving enthusiastically, although it is towards the top end of the rev range - so I'm not sure if it's just bouncing off a rev limiter, or if it is misfiring because of something else (I'm also an Audi A4 newbie - so any pearls of wisdom of someone more knowledgable than myself would be greatly appreciated). My car is the 2.6 petrol Quattro, Many thanks in advance for any help or suggestions offered.

well, ive had my car plugged into a vag com thingy...no faults came up.
the tec guy has suggested that the throttle body could maybe do with being cleaning and even maybe a compression test just to make sure things are ok.
so i think its going to be a trial n error thing now...so il post results as n when i get it seen to by him.
