Yesterday, my Passat gave me the "Check Oil" warning... it was a little low, so I topped it up to the Max level.

However, the Oil light stays on permanently now, and each time I start the car, I get the "Check Oil" warning...

    How can I reset this?

    Thanks
    Andrew

I seem to remember reading on here, it'll be cancelled only if the bonnet open switch has been activated, and if it's not the oil light will stay on. And that the bonnet switches have a habit of not working.

Nothing to see here, move along..

You are 100% right, Bring the oil to the correct level and close the bonnet, would never have worked it out, many thanks hijamie

    Hi there,

I'm suffereing with the same problem of the oil warning light not going off.

to clarify do you mean that after the oil level has been refilled that you press that bonnet open switch to get rid of the warning?

Sorry if my question sounds stupid.

    thanks
    C.

The way I cleared mine in the end was to remove both terminals from the battery and to hold them together for about 30 seconds... this reset the Oil Level warning.

(Note that your radio might go funny for a while... it took mine about 15 minutes with the ignition on before the radio "re-registered" with the ECU!)

    Hope this helps

In my case I set the oil to correct level and with the keys removed closed the bonnet. Then inserted the keys and started up the engine, light and warning went out and have stayed thet way. good luck, hijamie

If the bonnet switch is faulty, the light won't go out. The ecu needs to know the bonnet switch was opened and closed. Faulty bonnet switch often leads to alarm faults as well.

Is it possible to reset the warning light using vagcom?

    I've got a 02 TDI 130 with AVF engine.

Where would the bonnet switch be on this model? do I need to remove covers or something?

    thanks
    Conor
