    Hey,

My name is Dec and I have just brought a black 3 door, 04 plate Audi A3 2.0 TDI SE which I am picking up on friday. Its only the basic model but I needed a diesel pretty quickly as my current car (mk3 Golf 16v gti) is costing too much to run for the number of miles I do!

Just got a quick question regarding bumpers and such. As the 04 is pre-facelift on the new shape, what parts and needed to make it the newer shape?

I know the front bumper is different with the new style grill, which is mainly why I want to do it as I prefer the newer front. But are the rear bumpers/side skirts different too? I just want it to all tie in and match along the sides. (in case the front bumper is deeper or anything on the newer ones?

Also, do the newer front bumpers just bolt on or are they a different shape?

And a final quick question, is there a guide to removing the Single DIN head unit to replace with an aftermarket one? As I said above, I havent yet picked up the car so havent had a look and could simply be a couple of push pins Tried searching but havent found anything yet

    Thanks

    Dec

if its the single grill you will need a new bumper, grill, bonnet and grills for the fog light surrounds if they have them or blank.
In addition to this the parts will need to be primed, painted and fitted. The rear bumper and skirts remained the same on that model. They are a simple case of bolts. However you will need a new bonnet as mentioned has the new grill comes up.

In regards to the single din, i presume you want to fit a sat nav? If you do and the sat nav or new stereo is double din you will need the new double din cage, coin holder and few other pieces including a new air con control unit! This will give you an idea http://www.vwcruise.com/25.html

Hopefully this guide may help also; http://forums.fourtitude.com/zerothread?id=2717253

To be very honest, unless you plan to spend the money upgrading the car then go for it. If not, arn't you best off just holding off the car and buying an 04/05 model that has the new bumper/grill...also you would be saved a lot of work in the long run if the new car has 'audi symphony' This player requires double din cage. Good if you intend to remove it and retrofit a audi sat nav +. If it is 'concert' player then you will need to upgrade the cage from single to double.

Thank you for that! I was just looking at bumpers and the grill, I didnt realise the bonnet needed changing as well! That's a bit of a pain. I have a couple of friends with bodyshops so can get items resprayed fairly cheaply on that front, but seem to be looking for around £200 for a bumper in need of a respray and grill.

I plan on keeping the car for a few years really, and don't have the money to spend on a newer one as the prices seemed to jump up a fair bit.

I want to fit the head unit from my old car which is a Pioneer flip screen DVD player. It is only a Single DIN unit so I think all I would need is the faceplate adapter so it 'blends in' with the dash?

    Thanks again, Dec

if you go on the audi used section and look at a3's with the single grill and double grill, you'll see what i mean.

On the single grill, the bonnet ends in a straight line...as the double grill goes up, so does the bonnet (like a hill in the centre)

As for the din type you just need to find out what system is already fitted. CONCERT or chorus (i think) is single and symphony is double.
