130 tdi light smoke on idle

my b5 130tdi smokes lightly on idle, and alittle when accelorating hard,
i'm a bmw technician on the bm's this is usaly caused by the engine breather valve, dose anyone know if vw suffer the same ?

my 130 tdi when started from stone cold seems a little lumpy only for a few seconds, is this normal for a vw
i repair bmw's for a living and this usually indicates a injector falt is this so with vw's
p.s there is no codes in the ecu

I'd look at;

Coolant temp sensor.
Gunked up EGR valve.

Both are common faults and both will fail or be failing without throwing any codes.

Replace the sensor, clean the EGR.

No idea what I may have written on there but at a guess it's something to do with the North ?
