    Hi all,

I have a rcd310 fitted to my golf now, with a xcarlink connected to it.

It works fine, and did so with the old rcd300 apart from one thing. The old unit had a whistle, this one however does not, it has something more annoying.

There is a constant high pitched whine/humming that gets higher and faster as the revs/speed increases. Xcarlink support sent me a new lead which has done nothing.

They then sent me the following response:

This is an issue with your cars electrical electronic circuitry (Alternator whining) which may be related to the earthing in your car. Relocating the earth connection should resolve this issue, please relocate the earth away from the current earthing position or directly to the battery negative terminal. If this fails you may require a ground loop suppressor.

Has anyone else suffered this, and have you found a solution. I have had the unit out and re-done the ground connections, but im getting tired of dismanteling the dash.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

I have done so. All seems interesting. Although they seem to be for amplifiers. Where would one go in the standard setup?

I can only see ones with RCA connectors, non of which i have.

I have a 'connects 2' aux thingy me bob fitted to a passat with RCD300, when used with a tomtom 910 i get the whine which changes with the revs, however with my nokia 5800 its perrrrfect.

It is some thing to do with the earthing, however some times tomtom fine other irritating back ground noise, i thought it was the sound of the hard drive spinning but maybe not.

The answer would be to separate the earth off for your Xcarlink and get a good earth from else where - this should solve the problem

    Hey,

Had another chat with them and they have asked me to send the unit back. They are replacing it with a unit that has a built in ground loop suppressor, so hopefully should sort it.
