After my test drive yesterday I have since found out that the car I drove was the lower powered of the two diesels. This is a big relief because I was so dissappointed with how slow it was.

The diesel was actually fairly refined, I was quite surprised. You could definately tell that it was a diesel but it was tons quieter than my current 1.9 tdi golf.

I am quite suprised at how little test cars all our dealers have in this area, I have not yet managed to locate a 90ps diesel anywhere round here.

How is everyone else finding this?

I'd love one of those new Polos- saw one the other day in the local VW garage. I got 2 free cinema tickets as part of the 'Polo's Timeless Film Festival' and they've been sending me promo stuff. I've got a 1.2 12v 9N Polo, completely poverty spec (no options at all, just the sparse VW standard fit, although thankfully it has the 12v engine!) and that feels more solid than a friend's Fiesta despite having done 90,000 miles, so if the new Polo is even better than mine then it'll be built like an Audi. Can't wait until after Uni and (economy depending) I get a nice job and might be able to afford one. Second hand though...

I received an email from my VW sales guy on Thursday. My car has been built this week and will take approxiamtely 6 weeks to arrive.

    The nail-biting continues

On the other hand, the 1.2TSI is available on the VW website now. No DSG option though :/

This is very exciting news for you, the next month will go by so slowly!

I have been keeping an eye on the VW website for the 1.2 TSI, and I have spotted it for a decent price on drivethedeal.com. Just waiting for it to be available as a demo car in January before I order myself one, I like you cannot wait. Hoping to get it after 1st March however to get the 2010 plate.

As far as I am aware the TSI is not available with DSG even in Germany yet so I don't think it will be coming to Britain for a while yet. In the end I decided that I wouldn't wait for the DSG because for me it is not something I am very fussed about (im only 22 so I can wait till I am older to get an auto). For the extra money I would rather have the Alacantra or sat nav etc.

My stupid car still hasn't arrived yet

The salesman doesn't even know if the boat has docked in Germany yet. Once it's arrived in Germany, it takes another 1-2 weeks to get to the UK.

    *sigh*

I thought that the new VW polo was built in South Africa? Let us know when you do receive it, would love to hear how you get on. I am awaiting delivery at our local dealer of a 1.2tsi demo to drive, however they say I will not get to drive it till march/April time cos it takes bout 6 weeks to ship from Africa.

Yip, they ship it to Germany first (+-6 weeks) and then it takes +-1-2 weeks to get to the UK.

I have no idea if the salesman is telling me porkies and its entirely possible that they gave the car to someone else or took a lot longer to build it than he said.

Either way, I'm losing my patience rapidly.

Shipping it to Germany first before UK sounds a bit silly, I don't understand why companies do that.

    Hello People.

I've just signed up to this forum after placing my order for the new Polo.

I currently have an '04 1.2 Polo which I'm looking to replace. It was oringinally a 2nd car whilst my BMW Z4 coupe was a weekend drive. However, the BMW just wasn't getting used so it was time to let it go, as well as my Polo. My original thought was to go for a Mk 6 Golf (I used to have a Mk 4 when they were new) but having seen the new Polo, I decided that was the car for me.

I'm not bothered about performance (been there, done that with several BMW's in the past) and finding my current 1.2 sufficient, I've decided to go for a 1.2 Moda A/C in Candy White, with Convenience Pack, Sensor Pack, Comfort Pack, Alarm and Front centre armrest. The car was ordered on the 16th December.

I was initially told that my car was being built in the first 2 weeks of February, but I had a text (!) from the salesman saying it was now scheduled for the 1st week in March. I called him and he said that there was a slight delay on building all new Polos. I'm getting a bit frustrated, particularly as it's been posted here that it's 6 weeks or more for delivery once it's been built! The salesman said it was to be delivered at the end of March, but now I'm doubting that - mid to late April sounds more realistic. That's disappointing to say the least.

    Hi Silvergrey

My car was built in the week commencing 30 November and as far as my salesman knows, it hasn't even arrived in Germany yet.

Did you order a 3 or 5 door? If you ordered a 3 door, they're built in Spain so it probably takes a lot less time to get them shipped over than the 5-door models from South Africa.

Candy white! That's the colour I wanted but the other half wasn't sold on the idea. I bet it'll look stunning
