Today when i started my car, the check brake pads warning came up on the dash board. The pads on the car are relatively new- the back were done a few months back and the fronts still look like they have half their mileage still left. any suggestions as to what else i can check... Thanks

Did you check both sides of the pads, both inner and outer? The caliper pins can stick, causing uneven wear on either side of the disk.
Nothing to see here, move along..

If the discs have a deep lip around the outer edge, this cuts through the pad and into the sensor thus tripping it.
In summary, the sensor will trip when the pad is down to a depth, plus the depth of this lip.

just checked the outside ones but will have a good look tomorrow. the discs look ok and there doesnt appear to be a lip on them. are pads expensive? and do they have those pistons that you have to turn to get them to go in(not too sure of the correct name for them) or do they just push in. should be able to change them myself hopefully lol. done my sisters on her golf a few months ago.

My warning light kept coming on though the pads were fine. I put it down to the sensors, so I gave the sensors a good wiggling and the light no longer comes on!
