Hi. I'm running a 96 Mk3 Gti 8 valve on BBS Solitude alloys (6.5j) and need some lovely new tyres.
My question is I currently have 205/50/15 86v rated Continental tyres on at the moment and want to know whether I'm best buying 4 of the same size (205) or going down to a 195 tyre.
I understand that both 205 and 195 tyres were fitted to the mk3 as standard.
    If I go down to a 195 should I go for a 195/50 or maybe a 195/45?
Price is an issue for me at the moment hence this thought.

if price is your issue, go 195/50, as its a much more common tyre size, hence more being available at cheaper prices. You can pick up budgets for less than 30 quid, or something like toyos or yokohamas for 45 quid

The places where i go depends on inches.

    its fixed prices for 13, 14, 15, 16,17,18,19,20 and 21

Thats the sizes they do, They then take you to the room with tyres and allow you to choose what you want, once you have picked the tyres they take them into the fitting bay So i get kick *** tyres at £22 each (part worn) but they still have labels visible on the tread

    only in Aldershot lol

Moral - Look around for cheaper quality places, Go online too, as i found a buy one get one free a few years ago BRAND NEW!!
