Hi.. Great Forum here. I'm hoping someone can give me some insight especially if they have had a similar problem.

I own an Audi 2001 1.8T . Every morning a few seconds after I start the car, the coolant light starts flashing. It does this for a few minutes and then goes away. The rest of the day everythings fine, the light doesn't show up... just happens in the morning.

I got my car serviced and was told its a problem with the coolant level sensor in the header tank so got that changed. The problem did not go away so I took it back to the service centre and was told it's actually a problem with the coolant temperature sensor so got that changed (this was a couple days ago). The second time around I was waived the labour charges!

Turns out the problems still there... in fact today in the morning the light kept flashing and didn't go away after a few minutes like it normally does so I drove straight to the service centre and they looked into it for 30 minutes and couldn't figure it out. Eventually, they asked me to leave the car with them, which I have. Mind you they are VW Audi Specialists.

Everythings running fine... there's no overheating problems in the engine etc.

Any advice here would be greatly appreciated. I've spent around a £100 on this already!

    Thanks!

Thanks for the advice kenney. Is there any check that can be done to determine whether the instrument cluster is faulty for sure?

Well the workshop has taken the same route,i would have taken, but a fault similar to yours will not show up on diagnostics,it's more or less trial and error

Yeah you're right kenney, it's not showing up on diagnostics but i'm not too keen on messing with the instrument cluster without knowing for sure. Any idea how much that would set me back anyway?? :-|

What about going direct to Audi? Is that a good idea if the workshop can't figure it out?

I actually made a video of the fault last week i.e. the coolant light flashing.

If anyone wants to have a look, you can download it from the following llink. File format is 3gp.
