The factory fitted system doesn’t have a model number as such, it is the system fitted by VW at the factory as mandated by European law from 1995.

P268 EOX is the reg. Got private plate to put on soon but that is what is on at the moment. So I could just just kick up a stink and get them to ok it? I have supplied them a letter on headed paper from a local garage to say it has a factory fitted immobiliser which is fully functional. But the buggers say it is not good enough.

It is actually a 97 model and does have a factory fitted immobiliser using a transponder chip in the key, they have to accept this and it is a European law dictated device. You can tell them that I have obtained the vehicle build sheet and can confirm that your car has option “PR 7AA Electronic vehicle immobilization device”. If you PM me your address I will post you the sheets so you can send them to the insurance company.

Just to let you all know that I got nowhere with this and after supplying them the data sheets that clearly showed that my car had a factory immobiliser fitted AND a letter from a reputable mechanic saying the one fitted was working perfectly, they still refused to accept this. So goodbye to Direct Line B*st*rds and hello to Aviva.
