Hi, been on here a while now with a passat but i didn't need a car that size anymore. Anyways i love it to bits.

54 Golf GT, with Winter pack.

When i put the heaters on it smells like a publc toilet. I ran it on full heat and that cleared it.

I got an aircon deodoriser from halfords and thought that was it. But today i put the heaters on again and it smelled awful, made me nauseous. It seems to be worse when not on recirclate.

I see the intake is under a panel near the wipers, im tempted to spray deodoriser down there but i dont want to start a fire.

Any help appreciated as its a real shame this cars just shy of perfect

Hi mate - apparently the pollen filter can sometimes harbour bacteria and the fact that the smell is worse when not on re-circ points to this being a problem. I believe they are simple to change.

I got a long journey on Sunday so we will see if the new pollen filter is the cure or whether it just needs time

My 170 was the same, awful,eggy/sulphur smell, I originally thought that it was picking up smells from other car exhausts (always seemed to be behind an old Escort van when I smelt it)
Never thought of Febreeze - is there anything it can't do!
