    Chaps,

    Getting closer.
Major detail on the B7 yesterday (all day) and its parked up in the garage awaiting to be collected.

Newey built 2 weeks ago now so I guess its nearly ready to head to these shores so now gearing up for arrival.

Boot liner will get ordered up today. Always had them and they save the boot beyond belief, especially with the use the car gets with me.

    Grill badge all ordered also.

    Now, MMI........questions.

    1. I have a number of Scandisk extreme SD cards that I use with a Canon D500 DSLR. Is it a case of just opening itunes and copying files straight across to the card.
    2. Will they need converting or is really that simple (appologies for keep going over this one).
    3. The DSLR takes HD movie's. If I pop the card out of the camera will the MMI read the image files so they can be viewed and the movies.
    4. DVD....gone over this one before, but I am going to have one dissapointed 6yo if he cannot watch Star Wars in the car.
    5. Do I need VAGCOM to enable viewing in motion (not that I wil be watching it).
    6. Now the blackberry. I am sure contacts (address's, numbers) will be stored, but can I access emails from the screen.
    7. Any issue's anyone with Curve 8900 working all ok.
    8. Satnav POI's......what are included and can they be downloaded.

I am sure there will be more, apologies for going over old ground and many thanks in advance

My experiences lead me to believe...

    1. I have a number of Scandisk extreme SD cards that I use with a Canon D500 DSLR. Is it a case of just opening itunes and copying files straight across to the card.
No comment; not an iTunes user.

    2. Will they need converting or is really that simple (appologies for keep going over this one).
If they're MP3 or WMA they should be fine.

    3. The DSLR takes HD movie's. If I pop the card out of the camera will the MMI read the image files so they can be viewed and the movies.
    Nope... just music.

    4. DVD....gone over this one before, but I am going to have one dissapointed 6yo if he cannot watch Star Wars in the car.
    Yes, while stationary.

    5. Do I need VAGCOM to enable viewing in motion (not that I wil be watching it).
    Yes.

    6. Now the blackberry. I am sure contacts (address's, numbers) will be stored, but can I access emails from the screen.
    No.

    7. Any issue's anyone with Curve 8900 working all ok.
My Blackberry, 8300(!) Curve, worked perfectly.

    8. Satnav POI's......what are included and can they be downloaded.
Petrol stations, hotels, Audi centres, restaurants, hospitals... the list is quite long, but also rather useless. I think that post offices, post boxes and supermarkets should be on there - also the speech part is limited to a subset - you can shout "next hospital" or "next petrol station" but not everything in the POI list. You cannot download (or upload) anything.

i used an SD from a samsung camera. I didnt bother formatting and it worked fine.
i copied the files from the itunes directory (as opposed to the application). Ive had mixed results (doing other stuff) dragging tracks out of the library to ,say, the desktop.

AMI can play AAC (default itunes format) natively. I would expect (hope) the SD reader does too. MP3 and wma will also play.

DVD, is good. I had it unlocked with a dongle from ebay.
It works perfectly, but was a waste of money as I never have it on as its INCREDIBLY INCREDIBLY distracting.
I wouldn't recommend this to anyone.
You still get sound from the DVD when in motion.

Jop - is that dongle a one-time shot thing? I mean, you only need to use it once to enable VIM, but does it know which car it did and then won't work with other cars... or is it perfectly workable on many cars? You might have previously supplied a link, but can you remember where you got it? I'm still in two minds about the VAG-COM cable at £249.

Yep, something similar. Plug it in, take it out 20 seconds later. EASY!
The first time you use it it's paired to the car. You can use it whenever you need to enable it (in case it gets reset during a SW update, servicing etc..).

If i could spend the money again I would put it towards the Ross-Tech vag-com software/cable instead. I just wanted it done, no messing. Bosh!

I guess the risk is the the Audi centre reset the settings when it's in and hence you need to redo it occaisionally. In that case having a friend Vag-Com it could get difficult if you need to keep having it done.

If you are gonna spend money then in my mind it has to be Vag-Com/VCDS as you can do so much more with it than just VIM.

    How much is the dongle?

Hmm... if £50 then maybe... but I think £150 is too close to £249.
