This goes beyond the "what bugs you about the Golf" as at the moment I can't get bloody well comfortable again.

The OH drives the car occasionally and has a completely different driving position to me so she changes the seat - up, in and forward.

So when I come back to the car, I then have to spend about a week trying to find the right seating position:

    • The seat has to support my thighs in that my thigh has to rest on the whole seat otherwise I get twinges in my leg and back.
    • If I adjust the seat so my leg's supported, then I'm reaching too far for the steering and my arm's strained.
    • The steering is adjusted all the way down and towards me and still not right.
    • If the seat's forward so I can reach the steering right, then the headrest is too close to my head and it aches my neck.
    • Usually the seat's all the way down so I can reach the steering, but my feet then rest oddly on the pedals resulting in more twinges.

Don't get me wrong - the seat is usually comfortable, but I wish I had electric memory seats so that I can set it and come back to it again!

    Is it me?

I don't think you're alone, but how many people actually sit in the drivers seat and position it such that you have a slight bend in your arm when holding the steering wheel at 12o'clock ?

These days we have more adjustments than we ca cope with - my old MkIII is forwards/backwards and seat back recline - nothing else. I've never had any aches, even driving for 3-4 hours at a time.

Don't mention Vauxhalls - i'm like a cripple getting out of those, my left knee in agony

Ah - forget to mention the knee/foot pain....

The odd thing is that I can adjust the seat while driving when I get a twinge - the twinge goes only to be replaced by another!

Perhaps I should just stop my OH from driving my car....

Tiger, had the same problem me 6'+ wife 5' & a little bit, so I forced myself to remember my settings. Perhaps easy because I work from the 'limits' - seat all the way back then one click forward - seat all the way up - steering wheel all the way out then up so curve mirrors the dash curve. Also helps after the garage has for some reason changed all my seat positions during a service! Must be a pain if you're somewhere in between shortest and furthest adjustment for everything.

I'm not tall (5'8") but I spend 2 hours a day in the car so I have to be comfy.

This morning, however, using magic, I'm comfortable - finally - except tomorrow the OH will be using my car as she got a puncture today and I'll have to sort it out for her **rolls eyes**

I have the car for 3 months now, aprox. 3100 miles done, with Vienna leather option, must say until now I haven't found a completely comfortable driving position. After 30min-1hr driving there's allways something not right...

Well, I went for a drive today and finally, I think I'm comfortable - seat all the way down, not too reclined and steering all the way down and out.

However, the new trainers I'm wearing seem to conflict as yesterday seating was fine in work shoes, today less so in trainers.....

    OCD?

How strange this is. I can't get completely comfortable in mine either. I am the only driver but something is different to the MK5. The steering wheel does not come forward enough for me as I have the seat right back on the runners.
Also, are the seats narrower than the MK5's as the right hand side bolster digs into my skinny thighs somewhat and I have sciatica at the moment which does not help.
Evey time I get into the seat I make slight adjustments depending on the upper clothes I am wearing i.e I recline the back a little more or bring it more vertical etc.
I have raised the seat riight up and then driven and then have dropped their height and tried that.
Today, however, I felt more comfortable and am trying to make only very slight adjustments. After two months and 1500miles I would have thought that I might have achieve a good position by now.
