Paint Etching from bird droppings

So far this has only happen twice in two weeks but on both occaisions after removing the bird dropping, the paint is left with an etch mark. On both occaisions I have had to use Auto Glym Super Resin polish to remove the mark and then top up with some carnuba wax (as SRP has little long term protection). Has anyone else experienced this (think it must be more noticeable on darker colours - mine is Lava Grey)?

yes...you can see it on white when i hits the light wrong. You can get rid of it, but takes a long time!! Hopefully someone will have great tips on here to get rid of them? It doesn't take too long for the bird S***T to mark the paintwork, especially on newer cars.

I used to use SRP all the time and I often left bird muck on for a while as I was confident the paint was protected ... and I never had a problem. Perhaps it was because I had layer upon layer.

I am no expert but have been advised that SRP does not offer long term protection i.e. 6-8 weeks max (it is a good polish though) and so a layer or two of sealant or wax should applied after using SRP. The car has had two coats of Harly Wax (applied the day after the car was collected) and after washing (two bucket method) it is dried off using Auto Glym Aqua Wax however it was etched today with the bird lime (must have been on the car approx 3 hours. The SRP removed the etching and then I reapplied the Harly Wax - would hate to have seen the effect after a week.

Audi paint is known for its hardness as well as the clear coat.

I have had this prob on my Pantom Black B7 over the last 3 years of ownership.

It does in time fade and will disapear.

To treat I have used megs scratchX, followed by stage 1 clearner and polish and it will ease the pain.

To help prevent damage keep some quick detailer in the boot and a mf cloth

But trust me it will fade.

Doh! Me stoopid! I typed SRP when I meant Extra Gloss Protection.

SRP would offer no protection as it's a polish i.e. a milg cutting compound.

EGP is an alternative to wax. i.e. a chemical shell.

Whenever I polished I'd always make sure it got protected.

I had a bird mess do this a few weeks ago. I know a fair bit about looking after the paint but this one was very difficult to remove. I got splatted in a tarrifc Jam and thought it only hit the windscreen. Got home to find a massive bit welded on the bonnet and it stuck like cement after all that heat. Removed with warm water and a baby wipe but when I put my cheek on the bonnet I could see the mark left.

In the end I washed and removed any wax that was around the area. Taped off the area so I only worked on the bit I needed to, I have a habit of letting my hands wander when Im working on a panel and end up a foot away from the bit I need to work on.

I then used Chemical Guys Spider and Swirl remover. This appeared to work pretty well but I followed with Carlack68 Scratch remover paste to take the clear coat down a few fractions of a mm and then followed up with Carlack polish. You cant help but add extra light marks to the clearcoat with this so you then need to remove the scratchs with another product or polish. I then use AutoGlym SRP to fill in some of the light scratchs but this alone is not good enough so I added some Collonite wax on top. Took sometime but god rid of the bird poo in the end. Work in straight lines across and then down the mark, I wouldnt use the circle motion.
