Hi guys and gals, I recently purchased (4th Sept) a 53 plate A3 1.6 with 67k on the clock from a non-audi dealer, unfortunately the car (asgreat as it is) has had problems starting from cold from day one. When I come to start the car from cold the starter motor turns over but does not start the car until the third attempt. Once the car has started you can turn it on and off with no problems unless you leave it standing for more than 15 minutes! If I press the accelerator pedal when starting from cold the car will start.

I took the car to my local garage and they were unable to find anything on their diagnostic machine so they tested the battery, sparks, fuel pump, coolant sensor and pressure tested the engine-all fine! The garage where I purchased the car from is quite some distance away so I was a bit reluctant to drive it over there for them to tell me it wasn't covered by the warranty! Needless to say, I had very little choice at this point and took it back to the dealer from which I purchased. Unfortunately they couldn't get the car to not start (yeah right!) and told me that audi's are a little "funny" sometimes and that you should gently press the accelerator when starting from cold! To me this sounds like a load of ***p! I have owned quite a few cars in my life of which none of them has required me to press the accelerator when starting (although this does work).

I have since spoken to an audi specialists and he believes that I probably have either leaky injectors which are flooding the engine once it has been standing still for more than 15 minutes or a problem with the cold start valve/injector? Does this sound feasible? Should I go back to my dealer and demand he fix this under my 28 warranty or am i wasting my time as he will say its general wear and tear (I've done 700 miles in three weeks)? I'm not really sure of my rights regarding this but believe that under the sale of goods act any fault which appears within 28 days should be covered and the garage from which I purchased should provide an effective and lasting repair or I'm entitled to a full refund.

Needless to say I'm at my wits end and the dealer keeps giving me the run around! Is it true that leaky injectors are a fire hazard? If it is the injectors I dont have a spare £800 as quoted from audi to repair it out of my own pocket.

Any suggestions on how I should proceed would be very welcome.
