1998 2.5TDI Blown Engine

Tears roll down face. Less than 6 months in my hands. 190K miles, clouds of white smoke out the back, sudden loss of power. Oil level has rapidly fallen below the dipstick and combustion products wafting out of dipstick tube.

First signs before failure was a slight whine in sympathy with the engine revs and a sound at tickover that can only be described as the sort of gurgling/burbling you might hear as a sink or a bath is draining away.

My lovely A6 is currently at a garage that says it's "uneconomical" to repair, quoting >4K. I think they're way out. Regal engines of Essex quote 2.5K to supply and fit a recon.

Post rechip at ChippedUK, I'm blaming myself for the upgrade. Wondering if I'd never had the engine tuned that it would still be running today. BTW, I'm not a boy racer - 46 years old, max NCD, sensible driver. Now sick as a dog and feeling the fool.

Any words of comfort are appreciated.

there are usually a few audi 100's a6's being broken on ebay,,
